Auckland, NZ --In yet another race that came down to a "must win" situation for Stars & Stripes, USA-55 did a beautiful
job on the Hauraki Gulf today and stayed focused throughout the entire race, which turned out to be their final appearance in the Louis Vuitton Cup.
A right wind shift on the first beat gave America True an 8
boat length lead over Stars & Stripes and the light and shifty conditions kept Stars & Stripes behind the coed team for the rest of the race.
"I'm really proud of the guys," said Helmsman Ken
Read. "They have each individually earned each other's respect and have sailed so well together. We have done really well and we will all walk away from this event with a really positive
experience."
This Semi-Final Round was marred with protest and controversy for Team Dennis Conner but the team^Òs attitude and spirit never faltered. On even the worst days, our team stuck together and
put forth their best effort possible. This kind of determination and dedication is what sport is all about. "We want to make a special thanks to Daintry and Dennis Conner," said Afterguard Member Tom
Whidden. Without their leadership, we wouldn't have come this far. I couldn't bear to miss this campaign and I'm truly ecstatic that I was here."
The final delta for today's race was 1:32.
