  1. Contest entrants donate $ 10.00 to the Virgin Islands Challenge, a nonprofit corporation.
  2. For each donation to the Virgin Islands Challenge of $ 10.00, there is one contest entry.  Enter every month for more opportunities to win.
    You may enter as many times as you like.
  3. The entry consists of a name for the island, and one sentence on what inspired your name selection.
  4. The proceeds from the donations will be used to fund the activities of the Virgin Islands Challenge.
  5. Every month, a panel of judges selects one winning name.  Entries are judged on the criteria of creativity and relevance.
  6. The winner receives a vacation for two in the US Virgin Islands, and advances to the finals.
  7. There will be a simultaneous contest available for entry by paper forms in the US Virgin Islands.
  8. A separate winner from the  local contest each month advances to the finals.
  9. All finalists will be required to write a short, up to 250 word, essay on:
  10. "Why I would like to own my own private Caribbean Island and what inspired the name I entered in the contest."
  11. The grand prize winner and second prize winner will be announced on January 30, 2000.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Method of contest entry:

  • Entries must be made on-line, by pointing your web browser to the Virgin Islands Challenge web site at our contest Entry Form.
  • The starting date is April 24, 1999, and the ending date for receiving entries is January 15, 2000.
  • There are no limitations on the number of entries.
  • Virgin Islands Challenge assumes no responsibility for computer or technical errors in transmission of your entry over the Internet.
  • No credit cards will be charged for entries not received.
  • Contest winners are responsible for any taxes that may be incurred in their local jurisdictions.

Eligibility Requirements:

This offer is made subject to entrant's agreement that:

  • Entrant is at least 18 years of age.
  • Entrant is not affiliated with the sponsor, accounting firm, or panel of judges.
  • Entrant will, upon winning, sign an affidavit of eligibility and compliance with rules.
  • Entrant will accept a post-winning interview, and allow the use of their names or photographs in future promotions.
  • All entries become the property of the sponsor, and may be used for promotional purposes.

Odds of Winning:

The odds of winning depend upon the number of entrants received.

List of Prizewinners:

The winner's names will be available on the web site.  Optionally, interested persons may obtain a list of winners by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to ``Virgin Islands Challenge".

Void where Prohibited:

The contest operators have attempted to comply with all applicable laws regarding this skill contest.  However, this contest may not comply with the requirements in some jurisdictions.  In those jurisdictions this offer is void.  This offer is void in the State of Maryland and the State of Arizona.

The Official sponsor of this contest is ``The Virgin Islands Challenge", a U.S. Virgin Islands nonprofit corporation.
